The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with all clinic team members in caring for adult cancer patients, considering or enrolled in clinical research trials. The NP participates in initial H&P, treatment selection, eligibility screening, and ongoing management of patients' symptoms due to disease and/or treatment. As an investigator, the NP takes an active role in the design, implementation and evaluation of clinical trials.
The NP must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The NP must demonstrate evidence based knowledge and advanced clinical practice skills, serving as a leader in primary and acute health care. The NP must be committed to seeking and sharing knowledge that promotes quality health care and improves clinical outcomes. This is accomplished by leading and participating both in professional and lay health care reforms, conducting research, and applying findings to clinical practice. This position is associated with a significant level of professional autonomy; thus, the staff member must be highly motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively with other healthcare providers.
The NP functions within the scope of practice according to the Arizona Board of Nursing.
Basic Education
1. Master's Degree (MS or MSN) from a National League of Nursing (NLN) or CCNE approved institution and Board Certification from approved National Certifying Agency (ANCC or AANP) in the appropriate specialty (family practice or acute care) as a nurse practitioner in said specialty.
2. Arizona Nurse Practitioner license with prescriptive and dispensing authority.
3. DEA licensure
Basic Experience
2 years of oncology NP experience
